Capella University Doctoral Information
Capella University is an online school based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The university has an open admissions policy but sets high educational standards. Capella has been regionally accredited since 1997, and in 2010 it was awarded the CHEA Award for Outstanding Institutional Practice in Student Learning Outcomes.
Capella University offers more than 40 doctoral programs online. These include: DBA or Doctor of Business Administration programs in accounting and business with optional study abroad; an EdD or Doctor of Education program in Educational Leadership & Management; and PhD programs in dozens of fields. The school also offers a PsyD program with clinical field training, a DSW or Doctor of Social Work program, and an online DPA or Doctor of Public Administration program.
With the exception of the EdD, Capella’s online doctoral programs require three or more years of study. Students are mentored by experienced faculty members who guide them through the dissertation writing process. A few 4-day campus visits are required during the dissertation planning, writing, and defense. These help students to build relationships with professors and online peers. By graduation, each doctoral student at Capella has made a unique scholarly contribution to his or her field.
